"North Sea is a brand new project from Glasgow based producer Grobbie. He has been on the radar for a while making club music for labels such as Tuff Wax. This time around he has chosen the alias North Sea to showcase his more delicate, ambient music.
Every track on the "Bones" EP is superb. Containing mesmerising synths which creates an indelible sound, the tracks are very minimal-esque but that doesn't affect the intricacy of his production at all. Our favourite track from the EP is "Bones", layered with eerie chords and piano keys that will have you gripped throughout. The perfect end to a great EP."
"There seems to be a bit of a buzz forming around the ambient producers of Glasgow. From the cinematic soundscapes of Solipsism to the synth-splintering chill of Holobeams & Broken Machines, we’re becoming ever more fascinated by the appeal of orchestrated noise. And this week we can add yet another name to the growing list, a producer called North Sea who you may know more commonly as Grobbie. Heavily associated with Aberdeen’s Tuff Wax collective and a regular fixture on this very blog, he’s decided to take a more considered direction recently, using his new moniker to explore fresh possibilities and the hypnotising textures of ambient sound.
Releasing his debut EP ‘Bones’ this week, we found ourselves immediately sucked in to a gripping world of hyper-awareness, realised through four tracks of mesmerising beauty. Opening with the swirling tension of ‘Pollock Deep’- a nine minute journey into the complete unknown – you’ll soon find that ‘Bones’ is a carefully considered collection which uses subtle melody to draw the listener deep into a state of trance. With each track resonating a visceral and tangible emotion, you’ll find no better soundtrack to a gloomy day in Glasgow. Not advisable if you have The Fear however."
